History on Lamp Berger
|
1898-1909 |
The history begins in France in the workshop of a Parisian apothecary,
Maurice Berger. Looking for a method to purify the air, he discovered
beneficial effects from the catalytic combustion of a product
called "ozoalcool", and patented a "new lamp system
to purify air". Thus, the Lampe Berger was born with its
unique method which has proven its effectiveness throughout the
years.
|
1910-1929 |
Lampe
Berger was primarily reserved for medical uses and then, bit by
bit, it appeared in all the salons. It became the idol of Paris.
Originally, it was a simple diamond-shaped bottle. The lamp stirred
interest in all the great creators at that time: Lalique, Galle,
les Cristalleries de Baccarat, Daum ...
|
1930-1939 |
The
1930s were the triumphant years for this little lamp which purifies
air. Colette and Jean Cocteau went to the shop in Paris to buy
the model of their choice. Pablo Picasso spoke of "the most
intelligent of scents". In 1938, Lampe Berger received a
gold medal awarded by the French National Office of Scientific
and Industrial Research and Inventions.
|
1940-1973 |
This
golden age clashed with the Second World War. Lampe Berger production
was put on hold. It began again in the 50s and turned towards
a more classic production oriented on porcelain that was not affected
by fashion trends.
|
1974-1993 |
The
French man Marcel Auvray re-purchased the business and sited it
in Bourgtheroulde in Normandie in 1975. From 1987 onwards, Lampe
Berger has had continued success with new series of contemporary
lamps designed by a young creator, Pierre Casenove. Other great
creators joined him with their works, such as Mathias with his
"Passion" lamp which was made as a limited edition by
Daum.
|
1994-2000 |
The
first branch opened in New York. This period saw the birth of
the Collectors Club, as well as the nomination of a renowned creator:
Regis Dho. With new fragrances, new and improved materials, Lampe
Berger marks its place as a truly decorative object within the
world of interior perfumery. Its managers, Philippe Auvray and
Alain Le Bourg, following on with the dynamic approach, signed
the purchase of one of the top names in decorative candles, Point
a la Ligne, in April 1998. Lampe Berger and Point a la Ligne are
exhibited throughout the world and have united their forces for
the greatest merger in the world of homes and fragrances. We can
but wait...
